TWAS CLASSICAL LAB READING SERIES

TWAS Inc. sponsors annually, The TWAS Classical Lab Reading Series, an educational reading series that includes 3 classical plays, 3 professional guest artists/directors, 30-45 Classical Actors of Color and their contemporaries, auditions, 3-5 days of open rehearsals, culminating with staged readings presented free and open to the public, followed by discussion and/or Q&A.  

 

TWAS THEATRE PROJECT MAINSTAGE

TWAS Inc. produces fully staged productions, utilizing original classical texts.  Mainstage productions are scheduled between Winter and Spring annually and are presented for 12 – 16 performances over a three week period at various venues in and around New York City.  

 

TAKE WING AND SOAR SPIRIT OF EXCELLENCE AWARDS

TWAS Inc. hosts an annual fundraiser.  The Take Wing And Soar Spirit of Excellence Award celebrates the achievements of diverse artists and others who through outstanding performance and leadership have contributed directly or indirectly to the professionalism and growth of Take Wing And Soar Productions, the theatrical profession and society.  Awards are presented to artists and other individuals who excel in their professional settings; who personify excellence on the national, state, or local level; and who have demonstrated a commitment to cultural diversity, understanding and unity in the arts.  The Take Wing And Soar Spirit of Excellence Pioneer Award symbolizes work of enduring excellence.  It acknowledges the passion, commitment, strength, and endurance of veteran classically trained artists of color who have traveled the challenging road to personal and professional success.  Special, indeed, is the person who can navigate his or her own way while paving the way and assisting those who follow.  

 

TAKE WING AND SOAR ARTIST DEVELOPMENT

PROGRAM | THE HACKNEY HARLEM THEATRE COMPANY

This project is the first stage of an exciting artistic cultural exchange that will take place annually.  Every year leading up to 2012, young artists from the UK, USA and beyond will come together to create new theatrical works culminating with an international youth festival at the Hackney Empire Theatre. Online Search engine where producers, directors, agents and casting directors seek classically trained actors of color for employment and/or representation. Each actor will have a profile page with the following information: name; photo; height, eye color; degree(s)/training; link to personal webpage; info on current showcase.

 

HARLEM SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL

A theatre festival in Harlem spanning late summer / early fall  consisting of 3 plays; 1 musical/opera performance; featuring related films, workshops, panel discussions and family fun for all. www.harlemshakespearefest.org

TAKE WING AND SOAR SHAKESPEARE WORKSHOP

at The Harlem Branch Library  |  The Shakespeare Reading Salon is TWAS’ latest project.  Actors, dramaturges and a moderator meet monthly to read and discuss a Shakespeare Play.  The purpose of this program is to provide artists with additional opportunities to practice their craft, sharpen their skills with heightened language text; and familiarize themselves with all of the plays in the Shakespearean cannon.  Every year at least one of these plays will be staged and read for the Take Wing And Soar Classical Lab Reading Series.
